Honor a Hometown Hero

The Mathis Economic Development Corporation is proud to launch the Hometown Hero Banner Program, a community-wide tribute honoring the veterans and active-duty military personnel who call Mathis home. Every banner sold contributes directly to the construction and expansion of our new Veterans Memorial — a permanent place of remembrance for the men and women who have served our nation.

A Tribute on Every Light Pole

Personalized banners featuring each honoree will be proudly displayed on downtown district light poles for Memorial Day and Veterans Day. More than a seasonal display, these banners offer a visible, shared acknowledgment — a way for our community to see, remember, and thank those who have served.

At the close of each display period, every banner is returned to the honoree’s family as a lasting keepsake.

Two Ways to Participate

  • Family Tribute Banner — $100: Honor a loved one with a personalized banner bearing their name, photo, and service details.
  • Business Sponsorship — $250: Publicly support our veterans and our memorial project while representing your business in the downtown district.

Each banner includes professional design, printing, hardware, installation, and removal at the end of the display period. Pole selection is first-come, first-served, confirmed at the time of paid application.

Who Is Eligible

To be honored through the Hometown Hero Banner Program, the individual must be:

  • A current or former resident of the Mathis community
  • An honorably discharged U.S. military veteran, or an active-duty service member

Active-duty, veteran, and deceased status are all warmly welcomed.

How to Apply

Each completed application requires the following:

  1. A high-resolution photo of the honoree in uniform (JPEG or PNG preferred)
  2. Payment by check — payable to Mathis EDC — or in cash
  3. A signed Authorization and Agreement Form

Every Banner Builds a Memorial

This program is more than an annual tribute. Every banner purchased is a direct contribution to the new Veterans Memorial — a permanent landmark honoring generations of service from our small town. We invite every family, every business, and every neighbor to take part.
